Position Objectives
The McDowell County Department of Social Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate LINKS Social Worker to work with youth aged 14 to 21 in foster care. This position focuses on supporting their transition to independent living by providing essential resources, life skills training, and guidance. The ideal candidate will collaborate with foster care workers, administer assessments, develop transitional living plans, and facilitate necessary services to help youth achieve self-sufficiency.
Duties & Responsibilities
● Accompany foster care workers to client foster homes to meet with youth and develop Transitional Living Plans.
● Administer the Casey Life Skills assessment to evaluate clients' needs and tailor services accordingly.
● Assist clients with purchasing items related to the eight outcomes under Transitional Living and Housing Budgets.
● Track and report monthly expenses related to the Transitional Living and Housing budgets to the state.
● Provide transportation for youth to Say So meetings, It’s My Transition meetings, and other LINKS activities.
● Organize and lead in-house LINKS meetings to discuss and teach essential life skills for independent living.
● Collaborate with other social workers, foster families, and community partners to support the youth’s transition to adulthood.
● Maintain accurate and timely case documentation and reports.
Minimum Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field required. ● Experience working with youth in foster care or at-risk populations preferred.
● Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with foster families, social workers, and community agencies.
● Proficiency in case documentation and report writing.
● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
